From Corporate Auditor to Colorado Artisan: My Journey to Leia's

From Corporate Auditor to Colorado Artisan: My Journey to Leia's

For ten years, I lived a life that looked successful on paper. I worked as an auditor for large multinational corporations, analyzing numbers, ensuring compliance, and navigating the corporate world. The work was challenging, the pay was good, and the career path was clear. But beneath the surface of professional success, I carried a dream that wouldn't let go—the dream of building something with my own hands, something that was truly mine.

The Dream That Wouldn't Fade

I've always loved working with my hands. Even as a child, I was drawn to creating—whether it was crafting, sewing, or making something beautiful from scratch. While my days were filled with spreadsheets, financial reports, and audit procedures, my evenings and weekends were spent at my sewing machine. There was something deeply satisfying about transforming fabric into something beautiful and functional, something that couldn't be captured in a balance sheet or quarterly report.

I'd spend hours selecting fabrics, matching prints with coordinating linings, and perfecting each stitch. Friends and family would receive handmade gifts—quilted bags, pouches, and organizers. Their reactions fueled my passion. "You should sell these!" they'd say. And quietly, in the back of my mind, I'd think: "Maybe someday."

A Decade in Texas, A Yearning for Change

After ten years in Texas, working my way up the corporate ladder, I hit a crossroads. I was good at my job—detail-oriented, analytical, thorough. But I wasn't passionate about it. Every audit season, every client meeting, every financial statement review felt like I was moving further from the life I truly wanted.

I realized that if I didn't make a change, I never would. The corporate ladder was there to climb, but my heart wasn't in it. I needed more than professional success—I needed creative fulfillment. I needed a fresh start, a place where I could breathe, create, and build the life I'd been dreaming about for so long.

Finding Home in Colorado

In early 2025, I took the leap. I packed up my life, left the familiar comfort of Texas, and moved to Colorado. It was terrifying and exhilarating all at once. I didn't have a detailed business plan or a safety net—just a dream and the determination to make it happen.

Colorado welcomed me with open arms. The mountains, the crisp air, the vibrant creative community—it all felt like coming home. I found myself surrounded by makers, artists, and entrepreneurs who understood the pull of creating something meaningful. The natural beauty inspired me daily, and the supportive small business community gave me the courage to take the next step.

Building Leia's LLC

A year after moving to Colorado, in 2026, I founded Leia's LLC. The name holds special meaning—it comes from my constant companion and biggest supporter, my 2-year-old German Shepherd, Leia. She's been with me through every step of this journey, from those uncertain early days when I questioned whether I was making the right choice, to the joy of creating my first collection and making my first sale.

Leia sits beside me in my Colorado studio as I work, her presence a reminder of why I made this leap. She represents loyalty, companionship, and unconditional support—values I want to infuse into every piece I create.

From Numbers to Needles: The Transition

The transition from auditor to artisan wasn't always easy. I traded financial statements for fabric swatches, client meetings for quiet hours at my sewing machine, and corporate deadlines for creative timelines. I had to learn to trust my creative instincts instead of relying solely on data and analysis.

But here's what surprised me: my auditing background became one of my greatest assets. The attention to detail I developed reviewing financial statements translates perfectly into quality craftsmanship. The precision required in auditing helps me ensure every seam is straight, every corner is crisp, and every piece meets my high standards. The organizational skills I honed managing complex audits now help me run my business efficiently.

Every stitch I make, every bag I create, reminds me why I made this choice. There's a freedom in creating something tangible, something that brings organization and beauty into someone's daily life. When a customer tells me they use their boxy bag every day, or that my book sleeve protects their favorite novel, I feel a satisfaction that no audit report ever gave me.

What I Create and Why

Each boxy bag, book sleeve, and coin pouch I make is handcrafted with care in my Colorado studio. I personally select every fabric, looking for premium cotton in cheerful prints that bring joy. I spend hours coordinating exterior prints with complementary linings—a pink rose print paired with green polka dots, cheerful cherries with coordinating solids, playful patterns with classic ginghams.

I hand-cut each piece, carefully quilt the layers together, and sew every seam with precision. The structured shape of my boxy bags comes from thoughtful construction and quality materials. The durability of my book sleeves comes from reinforced stitching and careful finishing. Every detail matters because I want you to love and use these pieces for years to come.

Why Handmade Matters to Me

In a world of mass production and fast fashion, there's something revolutionary about handmade. Every piece I create is unique—no two are exactly alike. Each one is made with intention, care, and the belief that the things we use every day should be beautiful and well-made.

When you choose handmade, you're making a statement. You're saying that quality matters, that craftsmanship has value, and that supporting small businesses and individual makers is important. You're choosing to invest in something that will last, rather than something disposable.

For me, handmade is personal. It's the opposite of the corporate world I left behind. Instead of being a small cog in a massive machine, I'm building something meaningful, one stitch at a time.

Looking Forward

This journey is just beginning. I'm constantly inspired by new fabric prints, customer feedback, and the creative community around me. I have ideas for new products, new collections, and new ways to bring functional beauty into your life.

But more than anything, I'm grateful. Grateful for the courage to make this change, grateful for Colorado's inspiring landscape, grateful for Leia's companionship, and grateful for every person who supports this dream.

Thank You for Being Part of This Journey

If you're reading this, thank you. Whether you've purchased from Leia's, are considering it, or are simply curious about my story—your support means everything. You're not just a customer; you're part of the reason I get to wake up every day and do work I love. You're part of the reason I get to live my dream.

To anyone out there with a dream they're afraid to pursue: I understand. I spent ten years in a career that wasn't my passion. But I also know that it's never too late to start. Whether you're 25 or 55, whether you have a detailed plan or just a spark of an idea—take the first step. You might surprise yourself.

Here's to fresh starts, following your passion, and the courage to build something beautiful.

With gratitude,
